Overall, Job Purpose
The successful candidate will be responsible of administration of safe anaesthesia during surgical, therapeutic, diagnostic, and obstetric procedures.
Key Accountabilities
• Participate in elective and emergency theatre work and provide a high degree of input into high care and obstetric services and cover on call after hours.
• Lease with the pre-clerking nurses regarding patients who will require postoperative critical care and to carry out the pre-operative visits to evaluate and prepare patients for anaesthesia, providing education about surgery and recovery, and discussing the side effects of anaesthesia with them.
• Determine the amount and type of anaesthesia needed for the patient and the best way to administer it.
• Administer anaesthesia to patients to keep patients asleep or pain-free during surgery, according to hospital policy.
• Monitor and maintain patients' vital signs and their dose of anaesthesia during surgical procedures.
• Oversee and manage patients' safety during anaesthesia recovery.
• Provide follow-up care to patients transferred to high care ward areas.
• Work with a multi-professional team in the wards and emergency room in response to patients requiring critical care or resuscitation and provide expert emergency response intervention and support.
• Pursue strategies to continually improve workflow efficiencies, quality of services, patient satisfaction and staff/patient safety in theatre, emergency room and ambulance services
• Participate in continuous quality improvement activities as required by the hospital.
• Adhere to the infection and control (IPC) standard operating procedures including autoclaving/sterilizing of instruments and good housekeeping
•Collaborate with the medical team on patient case management (i.e., consultation, prescribing and dispensing of medication), where applicable and in line with stipulated country regulations
• Maintain confidentiality in matters related to patient, family and medical facility staff.
• Participate in on-call emergency theatre coverage at the hospital
• Conducting delivery and giving health education to pregnant women at labor and RCH clinic.
Qualifications And Experience
• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Nursing and Midwife
• Post Basic qualification in Nurse Anaesthetist
• Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in obstetrics and trauma anaesthesia
• Registration with relevant professional health body with valid nursing practicing license
Terms of Service: The successful candidate will be engaged on a Permanent Contract.
