Job Purpose
Operate wastewater treatment plant by ensuring that key parameters and standards are met before discharge to the environment. Monitoring of the Final Molasses storage area and all pumping facilities to enhance proper molasses handling.
Responsibilities and Accountability
• Certificate in water/wastewater treatment or equivalent.
• 3 years working in sugar industry
• Computer skills
• Adhere to Safety and lockout procedure during operation.
• Effective communication with team.
• Machines running behavior.
Terms of Service: The successful candidate will be engaged on Permanent Contract.

Responsibilities and Accountability
- Ensure all appropriate PPE are worn when handling chemical, when taking samples of wastewater and carrying out daily tasks, etc, eye protection, mouth protection as well as clothing protection must be worn.
- key parameters such as pH, COD, Total Suspended Solids, in real time and take Monitor appropriate & timely action to always enable running to agreed Food Safety Quality standards & specification.
- Ensure all final molasses handling operation and housekeeping are done by following standard operating procedure.
- It is very important to ensure that the valves throughout the plant are in the correct open/closed state as per recommended in working instruction when starting up the plant for the first after a shutdown period.
- Every shift ensures checking- faults log and equipment, setpoint are being achieved on dissolved oxygen, bar screen for debris build up, sluice gates in correct configuration, urea and phosphoric acid dosing lines are in channel.
- Ensure checking of the belt filter press that the disposal skip is not full, production of the thickened sludge, no abnormal noises, belts are not torn and in good condition, floor of the belt press is clean on every shift.
- Check the amount of polymer powder in the hopper and polymer make up unit isn’t overflowing on every shift.
- Ensure that the urea dosing system has no leaks on manifolds, pumps are running with no abnormal noises, valves are in the correct open/close state, level on the urea tank matches the Human Interface Machine, area is clean of chemical residue, urea mixer is not making any abnormal noises, urea tank is free for debris on surface at every shift.
- Ensure that phosphoric acid system has no leaks on the manifolds, pumps are running with no abnormal noises, all valves are in the correct open/close state, level on the tank matches the Human Machine interface and area is clean of chemical residue at every shift basis.
- Operator must make sure that Sodium hypochlorite dosing system has no leaks on the manifolds, pumps are running with no abnormal sound, all valves are in the correct open/close state, level on the tank matches the HMI, area is clean of chemical residue every shift.
- Ensure filtrate sump pumps are free from debris or on the screen of the sump, no leaks are present on pump manifolds, no abnormal noises, all valves are in the correct open/close state, pumps are producing enough pressure when running using the pressure gauges on every shift.
- Ensure cleanness of the Static Bar Screen, switching grit channel duty/standby are done by following Standard Operating procedure.
- Taking daily, weekly, and monthly Inlet samples by following Standard Operating Procedure.
- Ensure daily clean the surface of the clarifier for any debris, belt press of hard sludge and disposal skip area.
- Take stock count of chemicals, refill chemical dosing tank whenever notified by the Human Machine Interface and bleed sodium hypochlorite suction line as per Standard Operating Procedure
- Good operating condition of the Wastewater Treatment Plant is to be ensured by the operator. In case of abnormal sound and/or any defect noticed, then operator needs to report this to the Steam & Power generation Foreman.
- Expected to attend meetings as well as training for improvement initiatives.
- Ensure proper handing over at the end of his/her shift according to the handing over procedures.
- When involved in any incident that may affect your/others health or which has caused an injury to you, or impacted on the environment, report such incident to your Steam & Power generation foreman not later than the end of the shift during which the incident occurred.
