Job Purpose
The successful candidate will support the site functional area to effectively implement, comply with and monitor Health & Safety standards and processes, through coaching, guidance and communication with all relevant stakeholders, implementing safety performance and related standards systems process, and applicable legislative or regulatory requirements and promote safety culture and awareness.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate Safety risk assessments, and work with operations to develop best mitigation plans
  • Coach and guideline management in the assessment, management and continuous improvement of Health & Safety performance
  • Facilitate Health & Safety incident investigations and coordinate the verification of closeout actions
  • Facilitate the closeout of audit findings
  • Create Safety awareness using various fit for purpose media (e.g. toolbox talks, noticeboards, electronic media)
  • Develop Safety capability in contractors and seasonals, through facilitation of safety induction training / design material
  • Manage Safety induction processes, through effective planning, facilitation and co-ordination
  • Conduct inspections and internal audits to oversee and ensure the adherence to legislative and IIRMS requirements
  • Maintain the NOSA and external assurance systems through creating and updating procedures, communicating changes to procedures and auditing compliance
  • Implement and drive the implementation of Safety programmes and plans specific to area of responsibility
  • Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses making use of the relevant investigation tool which will be determined according to the severity of the matter
  • Develop monitoring schedules to ensure compliance with statutory requirements for safety, and occupational health
  • Support in the conducting of workplace risk assessments to identify health hazards (e.g., noise, chemicals, ergonomics) to monitor the effects of workplace exposures. Implement ongoing surveillance programs to identify health risks.
  • Provide input in the Investigation of occupational health cases, working with employees, management, and healthcare providers to ensure appropriate identification and mitigation of risks.
  • Test and validate inputs into the ABF Annual HSE reporting process to reduce likelihood of findings
  • Coordinate effective testing of emergency response protocols
  • Track Safety inspections in Incident Management Systems and facilitate effective closeout
  • Ensure effective HSE committee meetings are conducted to schedule through setting up the programme, attending meetings and making necessary changes to IIIRMS a result
  • Create awareness of safety in communities who live and use the estate (e.g. Schools, villages in the boundary) through developing and delivering pamphlets, talks etc
  • Promote and adhere to BU and Group procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to HSE, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)

Job Qualification and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Safety / Risk Management or equivalent
  • SAMTRAC / NEBOSH qualification; ISO 9000 / 22 000 Lead Auditor qualification an advantage
  • 2-3 years’ experience in an operational environment (Factory / Agriculture), working in a health and safety role.
  • Training in First Aid and Fire Prevention is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of relevant Occupational Health & Safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to plan, organise and track activities for self and others; problem solving and analytical skills; sound interpersonal and communication skills to be able to convey information effectively and influence others.
  • Report writing skills; ability to coach and facilitate learning; skills in MS Office

Terms Of Service: The successful candidate will be engaged on a Permanent Contract.
